3. On Monday night, July 7, 2025, I played the hardest Trumpet solos that Doc Severinsen ever performed live on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. I am not talking about his studio albums....only his live stuff on that show.
This horn wore me out and was just too much of a beast for me to be playing the 6 hardest Doc Severinsen solos.
4. I will hopefully be doing many more Doc Ed Johnny Tribute Shows in the future, and I am not young. I just don't see me physically being able to blow through a .468 bore on multiple Doc Severinsen Trumpet Solos...so I must part ways with this one of a kind beautiful trumpet.
5. In my estimation, this horn would be perfect for:
a. Lead Trumpet Playing
b. Jazz Trumpet Playing
c. Orchestral, Symphonic, and Brass Quintet Playing
d. Concert Band and Wind Ensemble Playing
This is a superior horn for all of the above. It is also a superior horn to play Maynard Ferguson or, yes, a Doc Severinsen trumpet solo...one solo, maybe two, yes, just fine! However, NOT SIX or an entire concert of Doc or Maynard.
If you occasionally have a high note solo come up in your band, THIS SCHIILKE X4 is perfect for you.
6. It is very true: This horn DOES play big and loud, especially up to High E's and High F's. Once you hit Double G's on up to Double C's, there is a huge energy and embouchure demand from this horn....
If you have been searching for a used X4 and found them scarce, yup, that is what happened to me last year.
If you thought you could just go buy one new, but then found out you might have to wait a year while they build it from scratch at the factory in Chicago, yup...same thing happened to me last year.
